Course Overview
The Department Coordinator is Prof. Deeraj Dave who has a vast experience in the area of Mechanical Engineering. Department of Mechanical Engineering offers an undergraduate programme leading to a B.E. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering and is called an ‘evergreen branch’ because of the steady demand of mechanical engineers from the industry. It caters to Automobiles, Railways, Aviation, Thermal Power Plants, Hydro Power Plants, Textile, Petroleum, Chemical, and a variety of other industries.
PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)
PEO I: Our graduates will posses solid foundation in mathematics, sciences and basic principles of engineering required to solve problems related to mechanical engineering and allied fields so that the graduate is able to pursue career successfully.
PEO II: Our graduates will posses strong practical, scientific and engineering breadth that cover multidisciplinary subjects enabling them to comprehend, analyze mechanical engineering problems and develop solutions.
PEO III: Our graduates will demonstrate ethical values, positive attitude, effective communication skills, teamwork and ability to relate engineering issues to broader social context.

Course Content
The programme covers a comprehensive semester wise study involving lecture and laboratory courses. The courses include basic courses in Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Materials Science, Mechanics of Solids, Manufacturing Sciences as well as others applied ones like Theory of Machines, Machine Design, Refrigeration & Air conditioning, CAD, CAM, etc. Students are also made to undergo industrial training as well as projects to supplement the theoretical and practical knowledge gained during classes with live engineering problems. The department has a team of high caliber faculty members dedicated to teaching and research. The department boasts of about 70% postgraduates including 5 PhDs, with collectively about 100 publications in Journals & Conferences at the national & international levels besides about 10 books. Some faculty members of the department are invited for expert lectures at Faculty Development Programs, Workshops etc. by premier institutions.
The department has well equipped laboratories. Students are exposed to some of the latest equipment namely CNC milling , CNC lathe, TIG welding, MIG welding, Profile projector, besides the conventional equipment, UTM, Torsion Testing, Impact Testing machines etc. The department has a state of the art CAD lab having 60 high end computers with packages like Pro-E & Solid works.
The department has an R&D cell which is a platform for research activities & initiates research aptitude in the students and faculty members. The niche areas of research of the department are Energy, Materials Technology and Industrial Engineering. The formation of Energy Club and Student’s Chapter of IEI are a few of the results of department initiative.
The department subscribes to a number of national and international journals including ASME, Springer link etc. The department has a very good departmental library; dedicated class rooms equipped with all teaching aids, dedicated faculty cabins, housed in a very impressive building.
The students of the department are provided with opportunities to interact with the centers of excellence in the country from academia as well as industry. Expert lectures are regularly arranged from authorities in their fields. Industry institute interaction is promoted by encouraging live industrial projects by the final year students, regular industrial visits, as well as guest lectures from industry personnel. The students of the department are also encouraged for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and have brought laurels at the various national level competitions. Career Options
The department has been consistently producing excellent results by notching ranks in the top 10 at the RGPV and every year many students are scoring high ranks in GATE, CAT, GRE etc and proceeding for higher education at premier institutions like IITs & IIMs in India as well as abroad.
Efforts in the overall development of the student have culminated into accreditation and placements by various industries of repute like Rolls-Royce, L&T, Cummins, Motherson-Technotools, Carrier-Aircon, Godfrey Phillips, Escorts, Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Tractor, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Satyam etc
